A warm and comforting Asian classic, this ABC soup is deep in umami flavor and the perfect dish on a cold day

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4L Water
  • 1 Whole chicken
  • 1 Corn, cut into 3 pieces
  • 2 Carrot, peeled and cut into chunks
  • 1 Onion, peeled and cut into half
  • 1 Potato, peeled and cut into large chunks
  • 2 Tomatoes, quartered
  • 6 Red dates (dried)
  • 1 tbsp Chicken powder
  • 1/2 tsp YumYum, or MSG
  • 1 tsp Salt

Instructions

  1. Prepare a 6L stock pot
  2. Place the chicken, corn, carrot, onion, potato, tomatoes and dates in the pot
  3. Fill with 4L of water and bring to a boil
  4. Skim the scum off the surface of the soup with a fine mesh sieve, then reduce the heat to low and cover
  5. Cook the soup, covered, for 5 hours on low heat
  6. Once the 5 hours are up season the soup with chicken powder, MSG, and salt
  7. Divide between bowls and serve
